Psychotherapist who can offer CBT(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
I am a psychologist with three decades of experience as a therapist, senior lecturer and research fellow. I have a PhD in Health Psychology and further qualifications in hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and neurolinguistic programming (NLP). I have recently completed a four year post at the University of Southampton, where I developed a three-phase protocol for managing anxiety and depression.
An area of specialist interest for me is chronic pain control, having lectured at the Anglo European College of Chiropractic for nine years where I taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in pain psychology. My approach combines evidence-based protocols from hypnosis, CBT and imagery rescripting. Review studies have shown hypnotherapy to be effective in managing a range of chronic pain conditions including back pain, fibromyalgia, headache and cancer-related pain.
Hypnotherapy for pain control utilises the powerful mind-body connection, the same mechanism of action that makes it a proven intervention for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and for functional abdominal pain in children, two other conditions in which I have a specialist interest. Other conditions I am experienced with, and that also have an evidence-base for hypnotherapy, include:
anxiety, depression, stress, panic disorder, exam and performance anxiety, chronic pain, headache, IBS, functional abdominal pain (FAP) in children, insomnia, weight loss, smoking cessation, addiction, motivation and sports performance.
